The backbone of the 2020 Vision concept is community
consultation.
During 2007 there have been a series of meetings with members of
the Southbridge community.
The Parent Focus group is made up of
parents who give honest
opinions on how things are going, imagine future directions
and make recommendations about these. Membership of this
group is open to all interested parents.
The Student Focus group is a group of ex-students, now at
Ellesmere College who gave feedback about their experiences at
Southbridge School and the transition
process between primary and intermediate school.
2020 Vision day on the 13th July 2007 was a day of presentations and activities
organised at an off-site venue for staff, members of the board
of trustees and members of the Home and School. The focus of the
day covered:
- Why - The big picture - the school's vision, mission
values and key characteristics.
- What - Learning Programmes - what our learning
programmes might look like in the future. Staff gave
presentations on curriculum coverage, key competencies, ICT,
inquiry, assessment, Maori and special needs.
- How - Making it happen. Focus groups were formed
to consider the property and finance, relationships and
organisation.
The day concluded with consideration of the next steps and
reflection on the day's events.
A 2020 Vision matrix has been assembled on
a wall in the staffroom prioritising the proposals and outcomes
of the 2020 vision day, cross-referencing them with key future
dates, 2008, 2010, 2012 & 2020.
A Research Group has assembled with assistance from the
University of Canterbury College of Education, to seek funding
to research the process of developing a school-based curriculum
in a New Zealand primary school. The proposal was
submitted to Cognition Education Research Trust at the beginning of September.
At the 2020 Vision workshop in September group members presented the findings of investigations
they had undertaken since the last meeting. The group split into
subgroups to re-evaluate the 2020 Vision matrix and prioritize
actions of 2008, 2010 and 2012. |
